Lee Balgemann, Photojournalist
My passion for photography began as a young boy, captivating my interest throughout high school in Oak Park, Illinois and continued as my calling while getting my degree from Knox College. After a successful career at the Associated Press, I became a freelance photographer, heavily influenced by my photojournalism background and experience.
- I capture the excitement in every situation I photograph.
- I get THE picture—and the whole story.
- I am bi-lingual (English and Spanish) and work comfortably and efficiently with a broad cross section of people.
I can apply this expertise and professionalism to your corporate, editorial and personal needs.
Personal photographs mean a lot to me. I am especially fond of photographing the stories of your weddings, Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs, noteworthy family celebrations and musical events. Head shots and modeling portfolios are as important to me as they are to you. I want your photograph on the Internet to make you look your absolute best. Dating in the 21st century demands your best face forward in the virtual world.
I am personable, make my subjects feel comfortable, dress for the occasion, listen carefully to your needs and am very patient. I've been internationally published on many magazine covers, as well as the stories inside. If you like, try your search engine to see what I have accomplished.
My professional affiliations include membership in the American Society of Media photographers and the National Press Photographers Association. I am a board member of Youth Service Project and the Percy Julian Science Institute.
"Rizhao, China: Rising with the Sun,” an exhibit by of my photography at the Oak Park Library documents Chinese life in Rizhao, China was shown the month of July 2008. There is a podcast of an interview with me about my trip and the photos I took for the Chinese government to provide a "Western view" of the city of Rizhao and the surrounding province, and to promote the area's culture, history, recreational venues, educational potential, and National Water Sports Training Base.
